VICTORVILLE • Desert Valley Hospital has completed its nearly $40 million expansion project and is ready to start operating new surgical suites and beds as soon as the state grants a license. The expansion, which broke ground in 2008, was prompted in large part by the hospital-bed shortage in the growing local community. The new 50,000-square-foot wing adds 53 new beds to the Victorville hospital, along with 12 new intensive care unit rooms. The High Desert has an average of 1.1 hospital beds per 1,000 population compared to 1.9 in California and 2.7 nationwide, according to data provided by St. Mary Medical Center.
