Mr. Donald Thompson serves as General Counsel to Prime Healthcare and its
Board of Directors. His work includes coordinating legal services for
major projects and transactions, providing legal advice and strategic
counsel to senior executives, physicians and management, and providing
legal oversight in mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions,
and formation and maintenance of corporate entities and affiliated entities
including hospitals and medical groups.
Mr. Thompson has more than 20 years of leadership experience in for profit
and not for profit health systems across the United States. He has expertise
and experience in complex regulatory and compliance matters, litigation
management, transactions, and employment law for diverse organizations,
acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures and more.
Mr. Thompson previously served as Associate General Counsel for Memorial
Health Services, a Southern California-based health system including acute
care hospitals, imaging centers, ambulatory care centers and clinics.
Prior to Memorial Health Services, Mr. Thompson was Corporate Counsel
for St. Joseph Health System, a $4 billion health system based in Orange,
California. Earlier in his career, Mr. Thompson worked as Senior Counsel
at Tenet in Dallas, Texas and at UniHealth, based out of Burbank, California.
Mr. Thompson’s legal career includes structuring joint ventures with
physicians; creating ACO's; whole hospital compliance auditing; negotiating
and developing managed care provider agreements; acting as lead attorney
for restructuring Medicaid reimbursement, and numerous other successes.
His career began in general business litigation and he also served as
in-house counsel for McDonnell Douglas Corporation.
Mr. Thompson received his Juris Doctor from Boston University School of
Law and his Bachelor of Arts in History from Emory University in Atlanta.
