Charities of Prime Healthcare and Reddy Family Foundations
The Dr. Prem Reddy Family Foundation and the Prime Healthcare Foundation
are dedicated to improving access to healthcare by supporting nonprofit
community-based hospitals and organizations and by increasing educational
opportunities in healthcare.
Driven by Dr. Reddy's life-long passion for healing and education,
the Foundations act as stewards of private funds to be used for public
good and fulfill a commitment to give back to the communities serviced
by Prime Healthcare Services.
Dr. Reddy and his family founded the Dr. Prem Reddy Family Foundation,
previously known as the Desert Valley Foundation, in 1986. It is a nonprofit
foundation that has donated millions to various charities, including those
that support health education, college scholarships, public healthcare
education and free community clinics. Additionally, the Prime Healthcare
Foundation was founded in 2006 and funded by Dr. Reddy and his family.
It owns 15 not-for-profit acute care hospitals in California, Texas, Ohio,
Georgia, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, which are considered community assets.
Combined, the foundations have assets of more than $1.2 billion.
In the United States, the Foundations assist patients unable to afford
treatment by funding free clinics and organizations supporting preventative
care. The Foundations also seek to ensure that students of all backgrounds
can pursue careers in medicine. Internationally, the Foundations promote
and support programs that improve quality of life, which includes providing
free medical care and supplies, potable water, new schools and safe, clean housing.
Through the Dr. Prem Reddy Family Foundation, Dr. Reddy supports Samaritan's
Purse, donating equipment to be used in clinics across high-needs areas
of Liberia, West Africa, as well as Honduras and Guatemala. He supports
nursing students through scholarships and infrastructure funding at universities
and facilities around the country, and has pledged over $2.5 million this
year alone. Most recently, Dr. Reddy made a commitment of $40 million
to fund the newest medical school in California, the California University
of Science and Medicine, located in San Bernardino. The school welcomed
it’s first class of students in July 2018.
