JNESO and Prime Healthcare Services Reach A Tentative Agreement at St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic
Passaic, New Jersey, April 15, 2013 – JNESO, the professional health union, and Prime Healthcare Services have reached a tentative bargaining agreement as part of Prime Healthcare's acquisition of St. Mary's Hospital in Passaic. The final agreement is subject to ratification by the entire membership at St. Mary's Hospital.
"We thank JNESO's leadership and members for their good faith during this negotiation period," said Prem Reddy, M.D., FACC, FCCP, Chairman, President and CEO of Prime Healthcare Services. "St. Mary's nurses and staff have worked extraordinarily hard to serve the Passaic community despite the hospital's financial troubles. We look forward to collaborating hand-in-hand with the union to make sure St. Mary's Hospital builds upon its mission to provide excellent patient care to Passaic and the surrounding communities."
Prime Healthcare was recognized as one of the "15 Top Health Systems" in the nation in 2013, based on quality of healthcare and patient satisfaction. It was the third time in five years it was recognized. In 2013, eight Prime Healthcare hospitals were ranked among the "100 Top Hospitals" in the nation by Truven Health Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters). Prime Healthcare hospitals have earned the award 21 times.
In addition, eight Prime Healthcare hospitals earned national recognition as "Top Performer on Key Quality Measures," (Top 18 percent), in 2012 from The Joint Commission, the leading Medicare accreditation organization in the country.
Ed Condit, President and CEO of St. Mary's Hospital applauded the agreement. "Today's proposal represents a major step forward for Prime's acquisition of St. Mary's Hospital. We appreciate the dedication and talent of our union team members and we are thrilled to have their support throughout this important transition. Now that every section of our team is unified behind the agreement and acquisition, we will all work towards joining Prime Healthcare's award-winning health system."
The purchase must still be approved by New Jersey's Department of Health, the state's Attorney General as well as the Vatican.
