Prime Healthcare Thanks Its Employees, Community Members and Supporters

Dear Prime Healthcare Family,

We are extremely grateful for your dedication and outpouring of support as we sought approval from the Attorney General for the purchase of the Daughters of Charity Health System, a system of six hospitals in California. The positive decision to approve the sale was the result of a community-wide effort and from that perspective we truly have something to celebrate.

Physicians, nurses, staff, patients and community members shared stories about their experiences with Prime Healthcare, allowing the public to learn about the quality of care and excellent service provided at our hospitals. In fact, more than 50,000 signatures on petitions and letters were submitted to the Attorney General in favor of the sale. We thank you for the time you have taken to represent Prime and the dedication we have to serving our communities.

This being said, due to the unprecedented and burdensome conditions placed on this particular sale, we have concluded that it would be impossible for Prime Healthcare to make the changes needed to operate and save these hospitals. This was not an easy decision and it is with heavy hearts that we have made our announcement.

We have respect for the mission of the Daughters of Charity hospitals. We had sincerely hoped for DCHS to become part of the Prime Healthcare family and did everything possible to make that happen but could not find a path that would ensure the DCHS system’s mission and future stability. It is in the best interests of the hospitals that we have made our decision as accepting the sale with conditions would have led to failure. We wish the best for DCHS and hope to see them thriving within their communities in the future.
