Prime Healthcare celebrates Social Worker Appreciation Month

Social Workers play an integral part in the patient-centered care provided within the walls of Prime Healthcare hospitals. As Social Worker Appreciation Month approaches, Prime Healthcare proudly stands at the forefront, celebrating the contributions of more than 250 social workers across our 44 hospitals nationwide. As champions of compassionate care, these dedicated professionals embody the organization’s mission and commitment to excellence.

Q1 2024 SM Posts 26We had the privilege of speaking with Roxborough Memorial Hospital’s Kevin Wanner, who shared insights into the profound impact of social work on patient care.

“As a social worker at Prime Healthcare, I have the privilege of supporting patients and families through some of the most difficult moments of their lives,” says Wanner. “Whether it’s providing counseling, connecting them with community resources, or advocating for their needs, our role is crucial in care after being discharged from our hospital.”

In addition to providing direct support to patients, social workers collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive care plans. They advocate for patients’ rights and interests, ensuring that they receive the resources and support necessary for optimal recovery.

Wanner goes on to share his experience working for Prime Healthcare. “I really fell in love with the role that social workers play within the hospital and the medical components that are necessary to provide patients with the best care possible. It’s humbling to be a part of this process; we see patients that are in such a vulnerable place, and it is our job to provide support and reassurance for their treatment plan.”

From connecting patients with community resources to facilitating communication between healthcare providers and families, social workers serve as invaluable allies in the healthcare journey.

“Social work is more than a job. We are responsible for building trust within our patients and care teams; the impact and influence you make on each patient make a lasting impression. Making those connections to the nurses, doctors, and outside community or past-acute facilities is critical for the success of those our team serves.”

Social workers are unsung heroes within Prime Healthcare hospitals, embodying the organization’s commitment to patient-centered care.

“Every day, I have the privilege of witnessing the resilience and strength of our patients,” Wanner said. “By empowering them with the necessary support and resources, we help them navigate their healthcare journey with dignity and compassion.”

As we celebrate Social Worker Appreciation Month, we extend our gratitude to these dedicated professionals who make a difference in the lives of patients and families every day.
