Prime Healthcare Releases Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Progress Report for 2023

(Ontario, California – February 12, 2024) – Prime Healthcare released its 2023 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Progress Report highlighting its continued commitment to sustainability, efficient use of resources, protecting the environment, and ensuring the health and safety of all those Prime Healthcare employs and serves.

“Over the course of this year, we have discovered new ways of working, new ways of ensuring equitable access to care, and new ways of providing quality, patient-centered healthcare for all,” said Kavitha Bhatia, MD, president and chair of Prime Healthcare Foundation and Chief Medical Officer of Strategy, Prime Healthcare. “Our ESG priorities will continue to evolve to adapt to changes in our world, and our decisions and goals will always be guided by our strong sense of health equity and social responsibility.”  

Prime Healthcare is one of the nation’s premier health systems with 44 hospitals and more than 300 outpatient locations in 14 states, serving more than 2.6 million patients annually. The health system has been nationally recognized year over year among the top systems in the nation for clinical excellence and was the only health system in 2023 ranking in the top 10 for social responsibility, health equity and cost efficiency, according to Lown Institute.

A few highlights of this year’s ESG report include:

  • A lifetime project savings of more than $69 million in energy projects has been identified and implemented.
  • Prime Healthcare has provided more than $12.4 billion in charitable contributions and community benefit since 2010.
  • Over the last eight years, Prime Healthcare has implemented enough energy consumption reduction projects to avoid more than 35,600 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
  • 63% of leadership positions in Prime Healthcare are held by women.
  • Prime’s digital transformation with Steer Health, using AI to address patient needs through innovative user-friendly tools to improve experience.
  • Prime Healthcare received more than 500 clinical excellence awards this year and earned more Patient Safety Excellence Awards from Healthgrades than any other health system for the last eight years.
